Look through the ticker
Compare the fund inside the wrapper: holdings, concentration, fees, methodology, and the role it may play in a portfolio.
Why a deep dive matters Similar tickers can hold very different exposures
An ETF ticker does not tell you exactly what you are buying. SPY and VOO both track the S&P 500 but differ in fees, legal structure, and trading characteristics. SCHD and VYM both carry a dividend label but use different selection rules. ARKK and ARKB look similar as tickers but represent entirely different exposures. A useful deep dive makes those distinctions visible without treating the fund name as a complete investment thesis.
Inside each ETF page Facts, holdings, exposure, strategy, and risk
Start with VOO, SPY, or QQQ to see the format.
- ETF facts — issuer, exchange, launch date, expense ratio, assets, and stated strategy.
- Top holdings and concentration — the largest positions, top-10 weight, and whether a small group drives the fund.
- Sector, country, or asset exposure — the actual portfolio mix behind the marketing label.
- Index or strategy — what the fund follows, how the exposure is selected, and which methodology changes matter.
- Portfolio role — whether the fund is closer to a core holding, diversifier, income tool, hedge, or concentrated satellite.
- Investor checklist — fees, overlap, liquidity, concentration, macro sensitivity, and the evidence to monitor after purchase.
Coverage and organization 101 funds across 37 categories
SnowballHare currently publishes 101 ETF deep dives. The underlying generated dataset uses 37 detailed categories across 4 asset classes, including broad equity, growth and value, international, sector, fixed-income, commodity, currency, and digital-asset exposures. Each deep dive has one canonical URL based on the ticker or descriptive slug. The listing below remains paginated in groups of 24, ordered so widely followed funds appear early while the complete set remains accessible through page links.
Sources and refresh cadence Issuer documents, holdings, SEC reports, market context
- Issuer fund pages and prospectuses — official strategy, fees, fund facts, and methodology documents.
- Public holdings disclosures — portfolio snapshots and concentration data where available.
- SEC EDGAR — regulatory fund reports and source documents used for verification.
- Market-data services — price history and reference fields used to add context, with dates shown on the page.
Holdings and fund facts do not all update on the same schedule. Some issuers publish daily holdings, while other products report monthly or quarterly. SnowballHare refreshes supported source snapshots through scheduled data builds and displays the relevant as-of date. See the research methodology for validation rules.
Common questions 5 concise answers
What is the difference between SPY and VOO?
Both track the S&P 500. SPY is issued by State Street and uses a unit investment trust structure, while VOO is issued by Vanguard as an open-end fund and has a lower stated expense ratio. Trading liquidity, structure, fees, and holding period all matter when comparing them.
How often do ETFs rebalance?
It depends on the index or active methodology. Some indexes change constituents as needed and rebalance on a scheduled quarterly or semiannual cycle, while equal-weight, factor, bond, and thematic funds can follow different calendars. Each deep dive should be checked against the issuer's current documents.
Can I see what is inside an ETF without buying it?
Yes. ETF issuers publish portfolio information, and regulatory reports provide additional holdings disclosure. SnowballHare consolidates available holdings, concentration, sector, country, and fund facts into a research view with source links.
What does an ETF expense ratio pay for?
The expense ratio covers operating costs such as management, administration, custody, accounting, and regulatory compliance. It is reflected in fund performance rather than charged as a separate bill to the investor.
Why are some ETFs missing from the database?
SnowballHare prioritizes widely followed funds and products with enough public data to support a useful deep dive. New, very small, highly specialized, leveraged, or inverse products may not yet have a page.
